Day 6: Le'ahi

Today we managed to get a sleep in and got up around 10am. We caught the bus to Diamond Head. It is the famous volcanic crater that overlooks Waikiki. This volcano has been dormant for over 20,000 years and it was used in the army for housing ammunition in tunnels and as a look out for enemy ships.

The trolley bus drives straight into the crater and from there it's a $1 park fee and a 40 minute climb to the summit.

The first section of the climb is relatively easy, it is a concrete pathway that leads to the rocky climb. From there on, the pathway becomes narrow in places and footing is uneven (due to the path being built on the solid lava). Just when you think you're there, stairs come into play!!! After catching your breath, and even more stairs, the view from the top was spectacular! It was a windy day so we cooled down quickly!

We made our descent back to the crater and got a bite to eat. Best hotdog ever!! We waited for our trolley bus and he took us passed the Hawaii studios where Hawaii-5-0 is filmed and stopped the bus at one point to sing a song with his ukulele!

Back at the hotel, we changed into out bathers and headed straight for the beach!! The water was very choppy, I'm glad we didn't go snorkelling today!

We had happy hour at the bar again before making our way to a pizza and pasta place opposite the hotel. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos (fish).

After a quick stop off at an ABC store for chocolate, we went to bed!
